Workshop details:

This 2-hour workshop aims at developing intuition and reflex as tools for composition of pieces based on Brazilian styles such as samba, baião, choro and marcha. Participants will learn about simple tools designed to draw inspiration from many situations, and how to develop their reflexes as composers, catching ideas intuitively as they first appear. They will also learn about the melodic, rhythmic and harmonic characteristics of the major Brazilian musical styles and their application in different contexts. Jovino will demonstrate how the creative process occurs, using examples by some of the greatest Brazilian composers, and often composing new music on the spot.
