BMF’s First International MPB Festival (Brazilian Popular Music), entitled “Bossa Nova & Beyond” includes the participation of professional musicians from different parts of the world and consists of a selection of over 20 Brazilian composers and over 40 hits from Bossa Nova to MPB.

The idea of the Festival is to promote Brazilian Popular Music around the world. The title “Bossa Nova & Beyond” alludes to the changes in Brazilian Music from Bossa Nova to MPB ( a new away to play and perform Brazilian Pop Music)

MPB is a music genre that emerged in Brazil in the mid-1960s, in the city of Rio de Janeiro with the second generation of bossa nova. It is a trend of post-bossa nova urban popular music that revisits typical Brazilian styles such as samba, samba-canção, baião and other Brazilian regional music.

Brazilian music festivals, held annually from 1965 to 1969 which were broadcast on television, exposed and promoted artists of this new genre. Artists such as Elis Regina, Elizete Cardoso, Chico Buarque, Jorge Ben Jor, among others, participated in these festivals.
