- Flute for Beginners
Prerequisites: No experience necessary, but you must provide your own flute.
Course detail:
In this class, you will learn how to hold the instrument, and explore the fundamentals of sound and tone production. Additionally, you will learn the fundamentals of reading music, breathing, rhythm, and scales. You will learn simple melodies and the fundamentals of ensemble playing.
- Flute for Intermediate
Prerequisites: One to two years prior experience is recommended with knowledge of sight reading and basic scales.
Course detail:
You will build on your existing flute technique in this class by exploring articulation, vibrato, overtones, and more advanced scales and patterns. Additionally, you will learn simple Brazilian melodies in the Bossa Nova idiom, Brazilian jazz standards, and Chorinhos that will help with Brazilian phrasing, rhythm, and concept. Beginning improvisation skills will also be addressed.
- Flute for Advanced
Prerequisites: This class is for students that have strong sight reading skills, the ability to play music and scales in all 12 keys, and with some jazz improvisation background.
Course detail:
This this class, you will learn how to play the more sophisticated aspects of Brazilian flute repertoire, including Chorinhos, and advanced Brazilian jazz compositions. You will learn how to apply the fundamentals of Brazilian rhythms within the context of jazz improvisation, how to embellish melodies, and how to expand your Brazilian musical language.
